I know I have had a wonderful summer! I went with my family up to Winnipeg, Manitoba a couple of weeks ago. I can’t believe that I still haven’t posted the link to the photos! Check them out here!

The summer has gone so fast. The State Fair starts in just two days! I can’t wait! I will be heading back down to Gustavus in less than a week, too!

Seattle Updates

I just got back from Seattle, as many of you know. I sent around e-mails to a few people describing what I did each day during the trip. Those e-mails have been posted to this site for your reading convenience.

Seattle Update 5

We are are back from Seattle. I thought that I would briefly describe what we did on Thursday and Friday.

On Thursday, we traveled up to Whidbey Island and went to a municipal beach and a beach at a state park. We took a state ferry to the island. I got some great pictures.

Friday, was all about getting back to Seattle to catch our plane. We took the ferry back, ate at Ivar’s fish resturant again, and soon found ourselves back in Minneapolis.

Seattle Update 4

Hi Everyone,

We are still enjoying our time here in Seattle.

Today we went to Mt. Raineer.  It was sunny here in Seattle and cloudy near the mountain.  After we entered the park, we traveled about twenty-five miles to a visitors center where you can often get a great view of the mountain.  Today it was foggy, so such was impossible.  We went on an hour long hike, and saw a mother deer and its two fawn on two separate occasions.  Brian really liked that.  He complained that we were too loud and would miss an animal siting.

The weather is really nice here.

We will be going to Woodby Island (I think that’s how its spelled) tomorrow.  I don’t think that they have a PC available for guest use there.  This hotel is in a business neighborhood in the city, unlike the other hotel.  If I don’t get back to you tomorrow or Friday, I will be sure to finish the story on Saturday when we are back in Minneapolis.

Seattle Update 3

Hi everyone,

We are having a nice time here in Seattle. It was sunny and in the 70s today. We visited the Chittenden Locks and the Zoo today.

The locks featured a “Salmon ladder” where Salmon can jump from a lake to the ocean. It is spectacular. They say that this is the peak time of the year to view the salmon, and with an underwater viewing area, there is no end to the excitement.

At the Zoo, we saw many animals, including elephants (both Indian and African). The animals were very active. The Zoo felt very natural in setting and was not busy. We think that that helped keep the animals moving.

We are having a great time here!! The weather is perfect!

Seattle Update 2

Hi Ya’ll (I feel more Southern after riding in our rental car from South Carolina),

We had a great day yesterday. We started out in Seatle Center, where the Space Needle is. We decided not to make the trip up, though, as such would cost $52.

We traveled downtown on the original Monorail built for the 1962 World’s Fair. That was fun. We then ran into Nordstrom’s, and saw the flagship store. Once we we out of there, we saw the fish mongers at the public market downtown. We noticed that although they throw real fish, they also have a frew fake fish that they throw.

We ate at Ibar’s, a fish market on the sea. After lunch, we went back to the monorail, which was closed due to a power problem. We returned to the Seattle Center on a bus, and got our car.

From there, we went up to Kerry Park, a scenic overlook of the town. I am enclosing a picture that I took there (with my cell phone).

After seeing the town, we went to see Mickey, one of my dad’s friends. We ate at Red Robin and then went on to see a waterfall and the waterfront of Lake Washington with them.

Wow! What a day. Sorry I didn’t write to you yesterday. We didn’t get back until after 11pm local time. We were all tired.
